COLOR GUARD call to US Citizenship Ceremony

The International Institute of Erie has invited Troop 59 to particpate as the color guard at this years Citizenship Ceremony in Judge McLaughlin’s Federal Courthouse courtroom.

It is this Friday June 25th, at 10:00 A.M and will last about 45 minutes with a reception afterward.

Color guard please plan on arriving before 9:30 A.M. to prepare. Color guard must be in FULL long pants, Class A Uniforms.

Backpacking June 25 and 26 – meet up with troop

Friday June 25, 4:00 P.M. Wear green class B’s and bring class A’s for time capsule opening. We will have water and restrooms at site.

1.) Leaving OLP parking lot to Oil Creek.
2.) Hiking four miles in to Wolfkiel Adirondacks
3.) Scouts on own for dinner.

Saturday 26.
4.) Scouts on own for breakfast.
5.) Hike 6 miles or 4 miles out to cars.
6.) Hit maybe McDonalds for lunch and Hoss’s for dinner – bring $15.00 – $20.00.
7.) meet with rest of troop at Custaloga by 1:00 p.m.
8.) follow rest of itinerary below back at OLP around 8 P.M.

Cost to Mr. Werner approx. $2.50 per scout depending on how many attend and adirondacks taken.

# This is one requirement for the Camping merit badge (backpack at least 4 miles) that all scouts working on this will need
# Cooking merit badge requires cooking on the trail

Those not going backpacking…

1. Meet 8:00 am. Saturday June 26th at OLP
2. Visit Pymatuming overflow and fish hatchery as well as the nature center
( you will want to bring old bread/rolls-loads of fun to watch the fish eat the bread)
3. Lunch- we will stop at McDonalds
4. 1pm arrive at Custaloga town scout camp.
5. 1-4pm participate in activities at Custaloga scout camp
6. 5pm- attend the opening of the Time Capsule (find out what was important to save years ago and see what will be added to save for the future)
7. Supper- stop at Hoss’s in Meadville
8. Arrive back at OLP around 8pm.
Plan to have an interesting as well as fun filled day.

We will need people to drive for this activity.

Meals and snack money needed- bring $15-$20 avg. per p

June 5th – National Trails Day Asbury Woods

Opportunity for service hours. Mr. Simonelli will need to sign the hours in your scout book for service hours. Asbury event – not troop sponsored. If your scout is interested we will need the parents to stay and help, not sure yet on leader coverage.

Asbury Woods is still looking for volunteers for National Trails Day ( next Saturday, June 5) It’s a great way for kids to get service hours, or for scouts to works on badges.

The kids will help maintain and repair the trails. The work will involve shoveling/raking in new gravel and wood chips any where the trails are getting muddy or rutted.

Kids can show up 8:00am, Saturday, June 5 at the Nature Center (east side of Asbury, across from the big white barn). A pair of work gloves is recommended, and a shovel or rake would be nice to have also.

Garage Sale Date Changes!

The date of the annual Troop 59 Garage Sale has been changed to June 6.

Drop off days will be Thursday, June 4 & Friday, June 5 from 6-8 p.m. The garage sale itself will be on Saturday, June 6 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Every Scout and a parent is required to work one drop off night and one shift of the garage sale on Saturday. Schedules will be distributed later this month.

You can download a Troop Resource Survey under the “downloads” tab on this website. One survey should be filled out by each parent or adult affiliated with the troop. These resource surveys let the troop know the abilities parents and adults have and the extent to which they would like to help out. Please fill these out and give them to the Scoutmaster (Larry Daley) or Committee Chairperson (Michelle Ohmer) as soon as possible.

Don’t Miss the Red and White Dinner!

The annual Troop 59 Red and White Dinner will be held at the OLP cafeteria this year on Monday, March 9 promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Main entrees include chicken tenders and shredded beef; dinner rolls will be provided. All families of the troop are responsible for bringing something to contribute to the dinner, (see the invitation enclosed).

Following dinner, there will be a court of honor, Friends of Scouting program and a special presentation regarding the new Troop 59 Guidelines and Policies Manual. All current members of Troop 59 and their families should attend this very important presentation. It is crucial that adult members, parents, and Scouts know and understand the contents of the new manual.

Also, Scoutmaster Larry and troop Advancement Chairperson Howie will present information regarding the summer trip to Gettysburg and Washington D.C. A preliminary itinerary, estimated cost and other important details will be discussed at this imperative presentation.
